Seminar: Character Design @ HKU

This work is made during the Seminar Character Design at the HKU. The first weeks of the new year opened with a three week long seminar session, I really enjoyed the seminar and the things I've made during these weeks.

Old versus New(er)

This illustration was made last year December for my MidYearAssessment at the HKU in Utrecht. My other work is more cartoon based, so I wanted to the show the pannel with teachers who graded it, that I also can work in a more realism based art style, which I really liked so I'm making that a lot more now that my cartoon work. But I still do cartoon/comic based illustration, working in more styles is better of course.

A happy mailbox

This illustrations was made in the last weeks of last year. I decided begin with a grayscale illustration, but after finishing that one. Some friends recommended to color this one, well I did and it looks a lot better this way. I finished the colored version in the first weeks of this year. The mood of the piece is really more readable in color, which is better!

Speedpaint: Factory

This speedpaint was a good practice for me, the way this one was made. I needed to be speedy with this one, which is already a good practice. I worked in grayscale, but a colored version I think will be nice. O well maybe for later... ^_^'

Train arriving at station

This illustration was made with no idea at the beginning. I was just planning on doing an environment, but when I was working on it, I got the idea to redo it and make a train arriving at a station. I enjoyed make this on, because I like trains in general and the perspective that fits the scene with the vehicle.

Late night Character Thumbnails

On a late night two days ago, I was painting these thumbnails, just to for fun. I really enjoyed making these. They where made only using some sketch brushes and no colors at all. Maybe later when I feel like it, I will put some color on them.
